SOLIDWORKS

SOLIDWORKS is a computer-aided-design (CAD) software tool that is capable of modeling three dimensional objects. The College of Engineeering has licensed SOLIDWORKS for use in the classroom, and for installation and use by students on their personally-owned computer (for academic work only). Some engineering courses use the software as part of the curriculum, while for other courses the software is a suggested tool.

Obtaining a Copy

Fees-paid students may obtain the software by download from a SOLIDWORKS website. Specific information assigned to Ohio State University must be used in the process. Students in EED First-Year Engineering classes can obtain this necessary information from their Carmen class content. MAE students can obtain the information from the MAE file server using their MAE account. Other students can send an email request to:

ENG-Software@osu.edu

Faculty who teach using SOLIDWORKS may have one installation on a 'personally-managed' computer for related class preparation and/or grading purposes. The local departmental IT staff can assist with the process.

Be sure to obtain and use the correct form of the software - 32 bit or 64 bit - that agrees with your operating system.

Restrictions and Terms of Use

May be used only for educational purposes (e.g., classroom instruction, demonstrations, homework, graded courses of study, sanctioned student projects).

For personal installation only the vendor-current student-version of the software, or, the student version used by EED First-Year Engineering Program, may be installed; and only one version on only one personally-owned computer is allowed. Only these two versions can be activated (in some years the vendor-current verson and the version used by the EED First-Year Engineering Program will be the same).
